Inaugural conference of the European Society for Spatial Biology (ESSB)

Welcome

On December 12 and 13, 2024, the inaugural conference of the ESSB will take place here in Berlin. We expect an interdisciplinary audience from various fields of life science including but not limited to pathologists, neuroscientists, tumor immunologists and developmental biologists. All levels of expertise, for example doctoral researchers, postdocs, and principal investigators will attend.

When registering for the conference, you can also tick whether you would like to become a member of the new society, which is free of charge for 2024. An annual membership fee from 2025 will be decided at the 1st members‘ assembly in Berlin, which will take place on December 12 from 18:00-19:00 in the auditorium. Over 200 participants have already indicated their interest.

We would like to present a small speciality: We have childcare during the conference – sponsored by Bruker. So if you need it – please tick this box when you register or send us an email.

Meet the editors

Chiara Anania

Nature Genetics

Chiara obtained her Ph.D. at the Berlin Institute for Medical Systems Biology (BIMSB) in the laboratory of Darío Lupiañez, where she studied the role of chromatin boundaries in developmental gene regulation. She joined Nature Genetics as Associate Editor in April 2023 and is based in Berlin, Germany. She handles papers in 3D genomics, molecular biology and functional genomics.

Nadja Bakocevic

European Journal of Immunology, EJI

Nadja obtained a PhD degree supervised by Reinhold Förster at Hannover Medical School (Hannover, Germany), where she examined the role of DCs for the induction of tolerance and immunity in the airways. She moved to Singapore for postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Lai Guan Ng at Singapore Immunology Network, focusing on immune responses and cellular dynamics of host response to Plasmodium spp. Nadja joined the EJI team in 2016, where she oversees the peer review, scientific content and EJI’s strategic development.

Iris Marchal

Nature Biotechnology

Iris covers the full breadth of Nature Biotechnology’s scope by handling Reviews, News and Commentary. She is keen to discuss the latest developments in Spatial Biology with the ESSB community, and to talk about your manuscript, scientific publishing and related topics.

Ilse Ariadna Valtierra Gutierrez

Nature Communications

Ilse has been at Nature Communications since 2020. She is a senior editor with the Cancer Team, where she handles manuscripts on cancer genomics with a special focus on basic cancer biology, cancer evolution and heterogeneity, and related computational analyses or approaches. She frequently handles papers using spatially resolved omics techniques to study cancer, or introducing tools to analyse spatial omics data.
